The health visitor will call to carry this out at regular intervals.
Antenatal Clinics
These are by appointment with a doctor and midwife on Thursday afternoons. The first booking appointment for a new antenatal patient is held on a Thursday morning.
Postnatal Clinics
An appointment will be sent to you
when your baby is eight weeks old, for a Tuesday or Friday morning.
Asthma/COPD/Obesity/Diabetes/Heart Disease/Smoking Cessation Clinics
These clinics are run by the practice nurse and are designed to help patients understand and manage their particular disease.
Blood tests will be taken as necessary. Also, blood pressure, peak flow readings and other related tests will be carried out at the clinics.
Dietetics
A dietician attends at regular intervals
to give advice and to monitor patients who need to be on a special diet for any
reason, eg diabetes, overweight, heart disease etc.
Cervical Smear Clinics
All female patients between the ages of 20 and 64 will be called at regular intervals to have a smear test done. These tests are carried out by the practice nurse or a female doctor.
Minor Surgery
Certain minor surgical procedures
can be done by the doctor during surgery hours thus avoiding the need to be put
on a hospital waiting list. Procedures undertaken include cryosurgery (removal
of warts), excision of some cysts, removal of ingrowing toenails, joint injections
etc. |
